The Kaupinpirtti building refurbished in the framework of the EU-GUGLE Smart City Initiative in Tampere took part in the national refurbished façades’ competition 2017. Winners have been announced on 26 September and Kaupinpirtti has been selected for the third place. The prize was awarded to Kaupinpirtti for a well-managed and goal-oriented refurbishment project. The renovation methods of the participating companies have been compared according to lifecycle assessment and energy efficiency results. Particular attention has been given to the comprehensive documentation of the process provided by the Kaupinpirtti limited liability housing company and successful communication during the renovation with residents.
Within this refurbishment project, ten centimeters of insulation have been added to the outer walls, while the architectural design has been updated to meet modern standards. The improvement of façade insulation, together with the installation of an exhaust air heat pump, have enable the limited liability housing company of Kaupinpirtti to achieve energy savings of 45% compared to pre-renovation levels.
