Vienna: fruitful site-visit with City-Zen partners

On 4 October, partners from the City-Zen project and the European association Energy Cities visited the EU-GUGLE representatives in the city of Vienna to share knowledge and experiences on energy-efficient building refurbishment.

In the framework of the City-Zen project, member project of the ‘My Smart City District Community’, innovative solutions towards energy efficient refurbishment, district heating and cooling as well as smart grids are currently being tested in two pilot cities, Grenoble and Amsterdam. During their study tour in Vienna, the partners from City-Zen and Energy Cities, the European Association of local authorities in energy transition, had the opportunity to visit the first two buildings retrofitted in the framework of the EU-GUGLE project.

Representatives from the city of Vienna presented the measures implemented in the two refurbished buildings to improve energy efficiency. These included the installation of multi-active façades, triple glazing windows and decentrally controlled domestic ventilation. Additionally, the visitors and EU-GUGLE project partners had an interesting discussion on the financing models available for building renovation.

In order to support the move towards smart and energy-efficient European cities, the EU-GUGLE project will continue working hand in hand with the eight projects from the ‘My Smart City District Community’ and European associations such as Energy Cities, that highlight the role of local authorities in the energy transition.
